The reason buffing is needed in an aut body is because after your paint job is complete and the clear coat dries it looks kinda rough in the sun, therefore you grab some compound and a buffer and you buff out your panel until you see the shine come out from the clar coat, after that you add some wax to it and boom, your car looks absolutly beautiful.

PAINTING PROCESS
1- clean your surface.
2- cover all surfaces not being repaired.
3- remove any rust from your surface.
4- repair any dents that are needed to be repaired.
5- sand all areas that require sanding.
6- prime your surface (bare metal or layered area is okay)
7- double check your surface for all these steps are correct
8- apply 3 coats of your paint after new top coat is dried.
